Joel Grind, the songwriter & founder of Toxic Holocaust has started a new solo project named YellowGoat. The main man of thrash metal has returned to his more humble beginnings in this 9 track solo project. “Expect raw and filthy metal just like my favorite records and demo’s. Names like Von, Beherit, Voor, Bathory, and Sodom come to mind. Reverb, Fuzz and Acid.”

What is Yellowgoat and how did it come to fruition?
YELLOWGOAT is a new project I’m working on thats kinda in the vein of some of my old favorite bands especially the really raw and dirty demos and LP’s like Voor, Bathory of course, Warhammer (UK), just lots of stuff. Even though it’s called YELLOWGOAT it really isnt a Bathory clone…I’d say it’s really more in line with what I did early on with Toxic Holocaust. Not to mention, it was fun to just write some tracks and record them without a lot of thought..basically just went for it. I think it turned out cool.
What can Toxic fans expect from Yellowgoat?
I guess you should expect raw Metal with lots of reverb and distortion. Very stripped down.
How did the writing process for Yellowgoat differ from that with Toxic Holocaust?
I think the biggest difference was that I got to basically write them then record them right away, instead of demoing it etc all that boring shit, I kinda just did it. That made it really fun to do.
Toxic Holocaust started out as your solo project, where you recorded everything, now that Toxic Holocaust has morphed into a more band dynamic, has Yellowgoat become another outlet for you to exercise your solo aspirations and demons?
Yeah, I’ve been on a real creative streak lately and Ive been wanting to get back to my old way of doing things for a change…playing all the instruments, turning up all amp and just going for it.
Do you plan on touring Yellowgoat, and if so, have you thought about who you’d like to have to fill out the live the band?
I don’t think I’ll be playing this stuff live, in fact I’m not totally sure I’ll even release this stuff…like I said it was more for fun. If a label wants to do an LP that might be cool, but no real aspirations or anything for this.
Yellowgoat has a much more rock, crust punk feel. Do you think this is something your TH fans will resonate with or something that may grab a new audience?
I don’t think I’ll be winning over anyone new in fact, so far it seems to be alienating some losers on the internet…..that’s good actually, means I’m doing something right. Haha
In Toxic Holocaust i can hear influences of old school black metal thrash like Bathory and Celtic Frost, who are your influences in Yellowgoat?
I think those influence come out in everything I do really, they are so deeply rooted in me that there’s no way around it. Like I said, for this project though I think a lot more of the raw side of things I like shined through…it’s always been there but this is a different side. It basically sounds like it was recorded in a toilet.
What’s your favourite track on the album?
I think I like the song “Cross Damnation” the best.
When can we expect the new solo album to be for sale?
Good question…not sure if it will be for sale and if so then not sure who’ll be releasing it.
