ATPIBYM CURATED BY ATP & MOGWAI

Once again, another absolute blinder from the All Tomorrows Parties family with this years ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’, curated by ATP & Mogwai. Still my favourite festival, mainly because this lot really know what they’re doing. Each and every ATP event is fucking awesome, and I’m still yet to have a shitty time at one (pretty sure this will never happen).

Friday saw Slayer headline, performing ‘Reign in Blood’ in it’s entirety, with support from Melvins, Sleep, Wolves in the Throne Room, YOB and A Storm of Light. As predicted the crowd were in good spirits…I got stamped on, Emma got smacked in the mouth and bit her tongue….it’s safe to say Slayer “slayed”. Sleep were probably a personal highlight for me, with the epic ‘Dragonaut’ sounding so perfect in the almighty palace that is Alexander.

Saturday we arrived too late (we were in pain from the night before), but we caught Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat (who reduced me to tears), Dirty Three (with an astounding 10/10 show), and Mogwai who blew me away with their massive sound…’Hunted by a Freak’ christ, that track’s so beautiful. I don’t think I’d seen Mogwai for many, many years before this weekend & the last time I did I probably didn’t fully appreciate. Their set was an unexpected treat for me.

Sunday we were fully geared up to check ‘Demdike Stare’ but we got fucked over by Sunday transport and only caught 1 track at the end of their set. Super bummed…this pair are dark, and I was so intrigued. I’ve since checked them out a bit, which makes me even annoyed for missing. Sunday’s highlight has to be chatting to Louis Theroux in a Q&A, and as the clock donged 00.01 it was my Birthday – ATPIBYM was the perfect weekend.

Thankyou to Deborah, Barry and all the ATP crew.

A mixture of photos from my phone & camera…

RICK ALLEN OF DEF LEPPARD | LIMITED-EDITION ‘DRUM ART’ COLLECTION

“Electric Hand: Rhythm + Change”

In music, few tales stand as tall as that of Rick Allen, who rebounded from every drummer’s worst nightmare – the loss of an arm – to multi-platinum success with Def Leppard to the tune of 100 million-plus records sold. Now, Allen’s journey beyond the conventional limits of music goes one step further into the fine art world with the release of “Electric Hand: Rhythm + Change”, a highly limited series of canvases created using cutting-edge technology that turns Allen’s every move behind the drumkit into a splash of color, resulting in a series of one-of-a-kind pieces that literally turn sound visual.

The living legend known to his millions of fans worldwide as ‘the Thunder God’ was 21 years old when a 1984 car accident left him with one arm. His return to drumming three years later with Def Leppard’s 20-million selling album Hysteria is a testament to Allen’s talent, passion and perseverance. One of music’s foremost philanthropists, he and his wife, musician Lauren Monroe, founded the Raven Drum Foundation, its mission to serve, educate and empower veterans and people in crisis.

“The collection reveals something that up until recently I didn’t even know existed, presenting sound into light,” says Allen of the “Drums” series, one of several innovative projects from Scenefour (scenefour.com), the art collective specializing in the conceptual and design of collaborative artwork with musical icons. The RZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Bootsy Collins of Parliament/James Brown fame, Chuck D of Public Enemy and TLC are just a handful of Scenefour’s collaborators, whose work can be seen in their 2011 book Come Together. “Electric Hand” is the newest addition to the “Art Of Drums” series, which also boasts collections from Guns N Roses drummer Matt Sorum and Jane’s Addiction stickman Stephen Perkins. “Hand” is available exclusively at RickAllenArt.com.
